What’s Been Happening at CPL?

The Coquitlam Public Library (CPL) has created – and is advertising for – six new management positions, which will more than double the current team of four managers. Ten managers for about seventy bargaining unit members is a ratio we feel is far too high as this is a significantly larger and costlier management structure than other public libraries in the lower mainland.

We estimate that the total compensation for these positions (including benefits) would be in excess of $600,000 per year.

So far CPL has refused to disclose where the money is coming from to fund these new positions. They also won’t tell us if this change will affect frontline staff or change how services are delivered to the public.

The Board also denied our request to present our concerns to them at their last meeting.

Public libraries are a valuable community asset. Coquitlam residents deserve the best possible public library that the available funding can provide.  Click here to send an email to City Council and the Library Director and ask them to cancel this restructuring plan.
